Announcing the BlueCamroo API

BlueCamroo is pleased to announce we've rolled out our API or "application programming interface". At this point you're probably wondering "what's an API and why do I need to know about it?" Well, technically if you're not a software developer and you're a fully satisfied BlueCamroo user, you probably don't need to really worry too much about the API. However, if you're a power user, an API lets you turn up BlueCamroo to the proverbial eleven.

Simply up, an API is a simple for a third party program to get data in and out of BlueCamroo. It's a collection of commands or "API calls" a third party program can issue to BlueCamroo to get data in and out. An API also defines how the data will look coming out of BlueCamroo and how you need to format data to get it into BlueCamroo. It's basically that simple.

But like, say, a handful of simple LegoTM blocks, you can build marvelously complicated applications. The power comes when you create a program that gets data in and out of BlueCamroo but then uses the API of another program to get data in and out of that. Your little program in the middle basically lets the BlueCamroo API "talk" and exchange data with another program. So, armed with the API of BlueCamroo and the API of, say, an accounting program, you can get invoice data out of BlueCamroo and then post it into your accounting package.

The API documentation is available here. If you're not a developer, don't be too disturbed if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. API developers can make sense of it.

Go forth and multiply your third-party applications!
